Academic & Classroom Support
Engineering Technology Services supports technologies in nearly 200 conference rooms, computer labs, and classrooms in the college.
Computer labs and software are dependent on the academic departments that they support and are typically based on instructor needs and often agreed upon by computer committees. Academic Lab images are updated on either an annual or semi-annual basis. Software for academic labs should be requested in May and October.
The University is rolling out Zoom (a.k.a., CarmenZoom) as a service for all faculty and staff members across the campus, so that digital video conference sessions can be hosted in dedicated conference rooms as well as offices, classrooms and other locations. These online meeting rooms will allow both internal (e.g. students) and external guests to join in collaborative or distance learning programs hosted on campus. This service is replacing CarmenConnect.
Across the College, faculty members have access to various technology that will assist them with teaching classes both in-person as well as online. Our classrooms have been fitted with podium-mounted computers that are connected to laser projectors, and network resources to access their documents and presentations on-site or in the cloud. With the Canvas system, faculty & students are able to easily access teaching materials on their computers & iPads, host discussion sessions with students and classmates and in some locations, wirelessly project content on their devices to HDTVs.
CarmenCanvas provides a set of integrated web course tools that can be used to supplement a class taught mostly face-to-face or can be used to teach an online course.
