IT News You Can Use - May 15

Did You Know?

OTDI has announced they will be making an enhancement to the Microsoft 365 policy. This new policy will allow faculty, staff, and students to access more Microsoft 365 applications and features in the future.

The policy change will occur from May 22 through May 30 for faculty and staff. Throughout that time period, users will be prompted to reauthenticate to Microsoft 365 with their university credentials. When prompted, you will be sent to a login screen requesting your user name (lastname.#@osu.edu) and password. It will be followed by a Duo prompt.

While the prompt may occur while you are using Microsoft 365 applications, it will not interrupt your use of the applications (including Teams), but you may be required to sign in again to save your work.

Upcoming Work

Between Friday, May 19th at 11:00 P.M. and Saturday, May 20th at 3:00 A.M., ETS will be performing core network maintenance. During this period there may be intermittent network outages to central College services including Storage, Citrix, and Internet access for COE wired network connections. Wireless Internet and OSU service access will not be impacted.

Important: The information below applies to Engineering Linux systems managed by ETS.

On Wednesday, May 24th at 10:00 P.M., ETS will start the process that updates all COE Linux systems managed by ETS.

The process will take some time and will run overnight. We do not expect the update process to cause interruptions, but we recommend that you save any open documents before the update process begins.

On Thursday, May 25th at 7:15 A.M., ETS will begin rebooting all COE Linux systems managed by ETS.

Please save your work and logoff before the reboot process begins to avoid losing any unsaved work.

Please ensure that any Linux systems you, or a group you manage uses, are powered on before May 24th to ensure they are updated and rebooted.

If you encounter any issues on your Linux system(s) after 9:00 A.M. on Thursday, May 25th, please submit an ETS ticket at https://go.osu.edu/ets.  In the ticket description, please note that it's a Linux system, the hostname of the system, and its location (if known), and someone will assist you as soon as they are available.
