IT News You Can Use - August 15

• As of Friday, August 12, all users will receive a new user profile when logging into any COE computer lab or classroom workstation.  All Windows and application settings have been set to their default values.  This is being done to resolve several known issues with old application settings conflicting with newer application versions.  All users will receive a new custom Start menu layout, and personalization such as color theme and desktop wallpaper will be reset.  Users will also need to re-authenticate to Microsoft to restore access to OneDrive and Office applications.  Some other applications may also require re-authentication, but again this will only be experienced on a COE computer lab or classroom workstation.

• Testing on the student lab machines can begin in all areas.  We would appreciate as much feedback as possible from faculty and instructors’ observations, concerns or suggestions from testing; kindly send an email to etshelp@osu.edu with as many details as possible so we can resolve as many issues as we can before the start of Autumn semester.

ETS is still finishing installation of a small number of applications that require special handling for imaging, but they are in progress and not expected to be a huge impact to testing.

Accessibility Tips and Tricks

Join Ashley Bricker this Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. for the second Digital Accessibility Coffee Hour.  Ashley will share a short presentation on adding alt text to images and be sure to bring your own accessibility questions for the Q & A session!  The Zoom link for this even can be found on the Digital Accessibility Coffee Hour event page.

Upcoming Work

On Monday, August 15 and Tuesday, August 16, ETS will be replacing some of the network switches and upgrading others. During those periods, wired network connections will be down or have intermittent operability in the affected areas. These updates do not affect wireless networks in the building and those services will not be impacted.  Buildings affected are:

·         Monday, August 15 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. – Baker Systems Engineering (CSE only)

·         Tuesday, August 16 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. - EJTC
